My My first Field placement was in the YMCA child care centre by Sheridan College. It was one of the most pleasant experiences for me with the toddlers. It had been a week yet and, one neophyte child girl came into our centre. Her family recently moved to Canada from my motherland (India). An angelic, adorable 3-year-old girl with a precious smile facing difficulties in the centre to steady down. When her father daily drops her in the centre, she felt like missing an unknown place. She cried and said, 'my dad will pick me up always. No one speaks Hindi (language) except me in the center. So, my educator miss, Glory, placed me with her child for assistance. I was so glad and happy to assist someone in my language because it was my first placement and having a second language English also no experience with children before (In Canada) makes me nervous at that time. So, I and Child collaborate. I remember when I hand over her water bottle to drink and had a conversation in my language she smiled. It kinda felt like home for her at that time. So, I begin to have a slow approach. Firstly we had an introduction with her classroom and educator. I often used English sentences while having a conversation with her. She started to play with stuff available in her classroom. Slowly, I provided her opportunities to engage with other children in the classroom. For example, leave her alone in the group activity and observed beside her. By the time she gets actively participated in the group activity, like around the sand table. Also, she started saying a little sentence in English like 'can go' 'this is mine. After a short time, she adopts the environment and the girl who always started crying while entering the centre converts into a smile. I was so blessed that I assist someone to adopt a new environment in my 1st field placement.
